The Hierophant offers a mixture of non-conventional sources of damage, defenses, and overall utility aimed towards spell and totem users. They have access to additional totem limit, with totem enhancements and bonuses that scale with additional totems to accompany it.

Let's start build with Arc. With some small changes on the passive tree (mostly the lightning nodes) you will be able to play any totembuild you want with this tree and gear.

Look for a rare Kris or Wand with inc. Spell Damage, Lightning Damage to Spells, inc. Crit Chance for Spells and/or Global Crit Multi

You can either dual whield 2 of them or go for a Spirit Shield with inc. Spell Damage, inc. Cast Speed, inc. Crit Chance for Spells and/or some maximum Life

Helmet

Look for a rare helmet with maximum Life, some resistance and maybe some Mana/Int, for and Upgrade you can Look out getting a Bone Helmet because the Minion Damage will also affect you since we are playing with Spiritual Aid.

Body Armour

Look for a rare body armour with some life and resistances for the start and later change to a shaper chest with the shaped suffix "Spells have +#% to Critical Strike Chance" (the higher the better). The mods "#% of Damage is taken from Mana before Life" and "Recover #% of Maximum Mana on Kill" are also good for the build.

Gloves

Maligaro's Virtuosity or any rare gloves with maximum life and resistances

Boots

Look for rare boots with maximum life, resistances and min. 20% movementspeed

Amulet

Marylene's Fallacy for free Culling Strike and some DPS push or any rare amulet with maximum life, crit multi, crit chance, resistances.

Rings

Essence Worm is highly recommended for a "free" wrath aura which gives us almost 20% increased damage!!!

The other ring you should aim for a diamond or opal ring with maximum life, resistances and some dex.

Belt

Look for a rare belt with maximum life and some resistances. You can aim for a Stygian Vise for a free Abyss Jewel but it's not really needed.

Flasks

Divination Distillate for some quantity bonus as it's a leaguestarter you want to make currency right.  But you can also use a normal Hybrid Flask to be more "save"
The Wise Oak but make sure that lightning resistance is your highest resistance otherwise the flask will not work!

A Silver and a Diamond Flask with Anti Bleed and Anti Freeze and a Quicksilver Flask with inc. Duration or inc. Effect

Jewels

1x Clear Mind not needed but will give us mana reg and round about 8% dmg increase.

The other slots we want to fill with Abyss Jewels with the following mods
